What is your fave festival and why?
I love Glastonbury. I’ve been going since I was fifteen and it’s so big it’s basically a world of its own.
What is your go-to festival look?
Depending on my mood, I either like to wear something a little sassy in the daytime, maybe a dress or a body or a bikini top with shorts, or just a big t-shirt or football jersey with shorts. They're baggy and airy so I don't get too hot and I feel totally comfortable. When it comes to the night I always wear a pair of tracksuit bottoms (preferably waterproof) and a hoodie, usually paired with the same little top or body from the day.
Whose festival style do you most admire?
I don’t think I have ever looked at “festival style” in that way. I have been going to festivals since I was about thirteen so have always just tried to be as comfortable as possible. You never know what the weather will be like so you have to prepare for all occasions. I pretty much have my festival bag down to a uniform. A couple of baggy t-shirts, a hoodie, shorts, a couple of bodies and little tops and a tracksuit. Always wear trainers to a festival. I used to make the mistake of wearing big CAT boots and they gave me some pretty memorable blisters. Even in the rain and mud, if you have a good pair of sturdy Reeboks or Nikes that you don’t mind getting messy, you can skip lightly along without getting stuck in the mud and laugh at everyone else falling over in their wellies.
What is your favourite festival memory?
One of those blisters was pretty memorable to be honest. My ex had to pop it and named it Colossus. Other than that, every year at Glastonbury is memorable. Seeing Wu Tang Clan in 2011 was a great moment for me. It was pouring with rain but I fought my way to the front from the very back with two of my friends. We were right in front of Method Man as Wu Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin ta Fuk Wit came on and it felt like Meth was saying “tiger style” right to me!
What is your most rock n roll festival memory?
Probably seeing Foo Fighters at Glastonbury last year. They headlined the festival and are close friends so it was nice to see them there.
Who is your favourite festival band?
Any old school hip hop. Last year at Glastonbury I discovered Nadia Rose for the first time and she and her whole entourage were amazing. She had an all-female crew including DJ and MCs. They were incredible to watch.
What would you never go to a festival without?
Wet wipes and a waterproof tracksuit.
Are you a camping or glamping kind of girl?
I used to be totally happy camping right in the pits when I was younger, but having tasted the sweet life of teepee camping I don’t think I could go back now… I’m getting old and need my cosy bed, pillow and eye mask to come back to.
If you ran your own festival who would headline, who would do the food and what would the vibe be?
It would probably be a hip hop festival. I would love to see Outkast/Goodie Mob play, maybe Shyheim, Lil Ugly Mane, Souls of Mischief, MF Doom, Freddie Gibbs, Illa J and Bahamadia. There are many others but I can’t decide who would headline. I would have steamed dim sum stalls with steamed vegetables and graffiti boards and paint stalls inside.
Have you ever seen your dad play a festival?
Yes, many times.
Who are your best festival buddies?
Most of the people I know and hang out with go to festivals so it’s always nice having an extended festival family. I do like to have a core crew in case people start taking too long and need shepherding. Then you end up missing the acts you want to see. I won’t mention the names of these people but they know who they are… they are militant in a crowd and can move fast if needs be. We have our tactics down!
